Introduction to IoT Device Keys
In order to add new devices to the ZENNER Datahub and make them known to the LoRaWAN® network, you must first have the associated device keys. They are used to uniquely identify your devices on the network, what ensures a secure connection and protection against unauthorized access.
The required device keys depend on how you add your devices to the ZENNER Datahub and the respective device type.
Needed Keys for Provisioning
If you can add your LoRaWAN devices simply by provisioning because you’ve ordered it directly from ZENNER, you only need the “DevEUI“. This key is a 64-bit unique identification number for a device, written in hexadecimal notation with 16 digits.
Needed Keys for Adding Manually or by CSV Upload
LoRaWAN Devices
If you have to add your LoRaWAN devices manually or by CSV Upload as new and in case it is the most common device type respectively join procedure “OTAA”, then you need additionally the “JoinEUI” and “AppKey“.
Where to find the Device Keys
Where to find the device keys of your devices differs from supplier to supplier, whereby we distinguish between devices ordered from ZENNER and devices ordered from third-party suppliers.
Devices ordered from ZENNER
In case you’ve ordered your devices directly from ZENNER, for example online in the ZENNERShop, you usually find your devices on the respective electronical delivery note, which you can download from the ZENNER Customer Portal after once created an account for this. Devices ordered from Third-Party
If you ordered your devices from a different third-party supplier, you can download the keys from a similar place to the ZENNER Customer Portal mentioned above, or you might find them directly on the devices or in the packaging they were delivered in.
